Pastor - Rev'd Don Attenborough
Don was born in Upper Norwood, South London in 1946. He has spent most of his life in the area of Streatham and Norbury. He worked for a few years in the City of London, then moving back to South London he began work in shop management. After this he served with the London Ambulance Service for eight years as a driver/attendant working on the accident and emergency section of the service. Don married Pam in 1968 and they have three children and five grandchildren.
Don worked in the property market for twelve years. Initially, he was a negotiator; in time he was promoted to branch manager and later to regional director. After this, in 1990, Don was called into full-time Christian ministry. He had become a Christian at the age of fifteen whilst attending Streatham Youth Centre and due to the witness of the Centre's Christian leaders, who attended various churches. These included Streatham Baptist Church in Lewin Road. In time, Don was baptised there and duly brought into membership.
Don became minister of Streatham Vale Baptist Church in 1990 and later served at Bonneville Baptist Church in Clapham (now All Nations Baptist Church). Later, he returned to his home Church at Lewin Road in 1998 where he served for four more years. During his ministry at Streatham Vale, Don undertook a three-year study course at Spurgeon's College. He then stepped out of full-time ministry in 2002 and he and Pam moved into Kent, settling in a coastal town. But clearly God's call on the ministry of Don & Pam was not over. In February 2004 he was received back into full-time ministry as he took over the pastorate at Ashtead Baptist Church. (Click here for Induction link)
“These are both hard and yet exciting times”, Don recently said, “The signs of the times indicate that the return of Jesus Christ to this world cannot be far off. Very difficult days lay ahead for our world as the end of this present age comes nearer and God’s new age approaches. There is an new urgency touching many hearts to reach people with the love of Christ before it is too late and it is exciting to be in full-time service at this point in world history, but then we are all in full-time service for Jesus whether through a secular job or Christian ministry!
God is giving his people a ‘wake up call’ through recent world events; it’s a call to greater faithfulness, greater commitment, greater prayer, greater emphasis on outreach and making our churches relevant to the society we live in. At the same time we need to make a stand against the evils around us, the liberalism that attacks the church and its teaching and the constant pushing away of God and godliness from our communities. As we push God away the hand of his protection is forced aside and we can expect his voice of love to call out to us in an ever increasing loudness by the tragedies we unleash on ourselves.
‘Maranatha’ the early believers called to each across the streets; it means, as I am sure you know, ‘The Lord comes’ and it was with great joy they expected his imminent return. I believe his return is nearer than many of us realise!
May you be encouraged by visiting our website and if you are ever in our area there will be a warm welcome for you at our services! Remember at all times God loves you and he is only ever a prayer away!”
